How the math works

Trailing drawdown follows your account's balance peak: breach level = peak − drawdown, until the peak clears the starting balance + drawdown — at that point most firms lock the level at the starting balance (the "breakeven lock"). Intraday trailing moves with every unrealized high-water mark; end-of-day trailing only advances at the daily close; static drawdown never moves from start − drawdown. This calculator uses the same model as Trading Floor's live drawdown guardian — the seatbelt that auto-flattens your account a cushion above the firm's line.

Frequently asked

What is Topstep's trailing drawdown?

Topstep uses an end-of-day trailing Maximum Loss Limit plus a soft Daily Loss Limit per size: the breach level is your peak balance minus the drawdown amount for your account size, until the peak clears the starting balance plus the drawdown — then it locks at the starting balance. The calculator above has each size's current number preloaded.

When does the Topstep drawdown stop trailing?

Once your peak balance reaches the starting balance plus the full drawdown amount, the level locks at your starting balance — from there, breaching means falling back to breakeven.

Can a trade copier protect my Topstep account from a drawdown breach?

Yes — Trading Floor's drawdown guardian tracks each account's live equity against this same model and auto-flattens a configurable cushion above the line, then stops copying to that account. One click applies the Topstep preset.
